Last Weekend at Hydrate

Posted by david on June 19th, 2008

Hydrate was so much fun last week!

Miss Cyon Flare, http://www.cyonflare.net , graced me and the crowd with her presence, and what a presence she is! I can’t thank her enough for hooting and hollering and helping to energize the crowd for a fun night. I waved for her to come over to the booth, and I said how much I liked her new record, “Everybody Everybody” (Jose Spinnin’s mix), which is now available on Beatport.
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/114742/everybody_everybody

I told Cyon Flare I wanted to play her song to show props, but I didn’t want her to think that I presumed she would perform. But, feeling the energy and momentum of the room, she was soon performing Demarco’s mix of “Break You”, and her song immediately after.

It was my first time playing in the new booth at Hydrate, and probably the most fun I have ever had. For the tour, we had the Travelocity Polaroid camera out capturing some hot moments and hotties of the night. I can’t wait to come back in October!

MADONNA FEVER:

One of my favorite hot songs to play at Hydrate was a new mix of Madonna’s “4 Minutes” (G. Christo Workmabod mix), complete with a hot guitar hook that rocks out the song (a la Deep Dish “Hello”). I also loved playing Alexander’s new mix of “Music”, and Allan Natal’s new mix of “Give It 2 Me”. The new Eddie Amador mix and Jody Den Broeder mix of “Give It 2 Me” are also both cool too. Also, if you can get your hands on a copy, DVIR HALEVI’s mix of “She’s Not Me” is really hot! After first being turned to him with his private mix of Offer ft Maya “First Time”, I knew that Halevi is one to watch for in the future.

Pure - Philly Pride

Posted by david on June 11th, 2008

Philly Pride at Pure was packed

My friend’s Joey Murphy and Ryan drove in and came to the club early with me. I had an hour to kill before I had to start spinning, and we passed that time with some mystery pink cocktail and hamming it up with my boss Tre. Tre is a pistol and very successful running a handful of businesses! Tre and Joey hit it off, and he professes her to be one of his new BFF’s. We also got to listen to opening resident DJ Stephen Durkin. I really like his style and got a nice rundown on his Traktor laptop dj-ing. Impressive!

More tracks:
Taito Tikaro, Selva “Beat & Drums”
J. Louis “Feel”
Cyon “Trust Me”
Alex Cohen “Electrified”
Jorge Jaramillo “Till I Feel OK” (Brunno Renno mix)
Tribalishiou “I’ll Always Be There” (Ivy & Rose mix)
Dor Dekel “Boys Of Freedom”
Chus and Ceballos “Go On’ (Tommyboy remix)
Madonna “Get Together” (Roger Sanchez Fired Up mix)
Jonathan Peters “Mr. Man” (J.P. & Mac Quayle mix)
Yinon Yahel “More Beatzzz 2008″

DISNEY WAS GREAT!

The Pool Party was so much fun!

It was awesome to be able to connect with old and new friends. Alex Sotello, Mike McNamara, and his man Terry (DJ Lalley) are some of my favorite people to have in the booth. I have to say thank you for taking such great care of me and helping me to get off to the airport at the end of the party (Philly Pride)! It was also nice to see Miami buds Ray and Craig, who have a son named Liam.

Jeanie Tracey performed! I can’t believe I hadn’t seen her on stage before. She had such a great harmony with the crowd. Everyone was singing and jumping and had “Los Manos Arriba”! I to tell Jeanie that when I started dj-ing in Miami, I wore out and absolutely loved her record “Do You Believe In The Wonder (Farley and Heller mix). She lit right up and we had a great little conversation!

A couple of good pool party tracks I enjoyed playing (that I haven’t already mentioned on the site):
St. Connection “Jingo Chic” (Powered Milk dub)
Gustavo Scorpio “Full Load”
Silvano Da Silva “Da Beat Goes feat. Mazaya”
Ministry of Funk “Let There Be House” (Castelli Ipanema mix)
Ida Corr “Let Me Think About It” (Flavio Lima Tribal 2008 mix)
Kylie Minogue “The One” (Freemasons mix)
Kylie Minogue “All I See” (Pichiotti House mix)
Leona Lewis “Bleeding Love” Moto Blanco mix
Offer Nissim Ft. Maya “Why”
Amber “Sexual 2008″ (Alexander & Mark VDH mix)
Next year’s Disney: I will playing Magic Journey’s Afterhours Friday at Arabian Knights

Memorial Weekend, Luke Johnstone and I tag-teamed a memorable dj set. Here were the comments by an experienced dj follower:

“Last night in SF at Sanctuary www.guspresents.com was one of the BEST event i think i have been to in awhile . The line wass more then 1hr long waite to get into the club and at the point u actually got in the place was packed ,HOT and full of half naked beautiful men. What more could a person ask for….

Now for the best part and i truely mean this ROSABLE MOVE OVER !!!! DJ’s David Knapp and Luke Johnstone tag teamed like they had been doing it for ages . The music was smooth ,dark but not too pots and pans and most of all SEXY and Nasty . Luke and David did something at this Sanctuary that was just truely amazing ,the music between the two just seened to FLOW all night long with out one person in the club saying ANYTHING bad about the music ! Which i may say is a first for me ,usually someone has something to say …lol…..I did not bother the Djs all night long with the cam or vids becasue Joe Pessa was in the house and well Joe was doing a wonderful job of flowing unnoticed threw the crowd taking great pictures of everyone and not bothering the rhythm of the crowds dancing . Thxs JOe for doing that last night and i can not waite to see what u had taken al night long . Luke and David when i had seen them from going up and down the stairs and watching them from the stage dance floors where smiling all night long and i think from the looks of things haveing a blast themself . They made something that looks so hard ,so EASY and without missing a beat . Two DJ that never worked together before in a situation like this seemed to be a MATCH Made in HEAVEN. I wish or i should say HOPE that somehow someway they was a way they were able to RECORD the set they did last night becasue if u were not there u REALLY MISSOUT on one of the BEST SETS come to date !!! For me that is !
I love ya both Luke and David !!!!!!!
Gus just a personal note maybe in the future at some point this could happen again ! FIERCE is the WORD for them last night !!!!”

What can Luke and I say? The comparison to Abel and Ralphi is very flattering. Mostly, we are glad that the crowd was feeling what we were feeling!. We definitely want to re-team again soon!

Memorial Weekend: Pensacola & San Francisco

Posted by david on May 22nd, 2008

Getting psyched about this weekend. For the third year in a row, I am off to play in Pensacola Saturday of Memorial Wkd at Emerald City Nightclub. This particular night is always packed, and it is a nice looking club and technically great booth and system. Got a new mix of Sounds Of Blackness “The Pressure” from Alex Cohen and it rocks! Can’t wait to play it out loud for the boys (and girls).

Don’t forget to return to Emerald City the next night (Sunday) for the tantalizing set of Alyson Calagna where she no doubt play her Franklin Fuentes track “I Am Fierce”. I have two words for that track….LOVING IT!

After Pensacola, I head to San Francisco May 25th to work for Gus Bean at his long running Sanctuary Sunday event. Luke Johnstone is a dj, promoter friend with whom I am sharing the night. This will be our second “tag-team” dj set, and it will be a pleasure.

Have a safe Memorial Wkd!
