I Left My Heart In San Francisco!

Posted by david on June 3rd, 2008

Memorial Weekend, Luke Johnstone and I tag-teamed a memorable dj set. Here were the comments by an experienced dj follower:

“Last night in SF at Sanctuary www.guspresents.com was one of the BEST event i think i have been to in awhile . The line wass more then 1hr long waite to get into the club and at the point u actually got in the place was packed ,HOT and full of half naked beautiful men. What more could a person ask for….

Now for the best part and i truely mean this ROSABLE MOVE OVER !!!! DJ’s David Knapp and Luke Johnstone tag teamed like they had been doing it for ages . The music was smooth ,dark but not too pots and pans and most of all SEXY and Nasty . Luke and David did something at this Sanctuary that was just truely amazing ,the music between the two just seened to FLOW all night long with out one person in the club saying ANYTHING bad about the music ! Which i may say is a first for me ,usually someone has something to say …lol…..I did not bother the Djs all night long with the cam or vids becasue Joe Pessa was in the house and well Joe was doing a wonderful job of flowing unnoticed threw the crowd taking great pictures of everyone and not bothering the rhythm of the crowds dancing . Thxs JOe for doing that last night and i can not waite to see what u had taken al night long . Luke and David when i had seen them from going up and down the stairs and watching them from the stage dance floors where smiling all night long and i think from the looks of things haveing a blast themself . They made something that looks so hard ,so EASY and without missing a beat . Two DJ that never worked together before in a situation like this seemed to be a MATCH Made in HEAVEN. I wish or i should say HOPE that somehow someway they was a way they were able to RECORD the set they did last night becasue if u were not there u REALLY MISSOUT on one of the BEST SETS come to date !!! For me that is !
I love ya both Luke and David !!!!!!!
Gus just a personal note maybe in the future at some point this could happen again ! FIERCE is the WORD for them last night !!!!”

What can Luke and I say? The comparison to Abel and Ralphi is very flattering. Mostly, we are glad that the crowd was feeling what we were feeling!. We definitely want to re-team again soon!

Memorial Weekend: Pensacola & San Francisco

Posted by david on May 22nd, 2008

Getting psyched about this weekend. For the third year in a row, I am off to play in Pensacola Saturday of Memorial Wkd at Emerald City Nightclub. This particular night is always packed, and it is a nice looking club and technically great booth and system. Got a new mix of Sounds Of Blackness “The Pressure” from Alex Cohen and it rocks! Can’t wait to play it out loud for the boys (and girls).

Don’t forget to return to Emerald City the next night (Sunday) for the tantalizing set of Alyson Calagna where she no doubt play her Franklin Fuentes track “I Am Fierce”. I have two words for that track….LOVING IT!

After Pensacola, I head to San Francisco May 25th to work for Gus Bean at his long running Sanctuary Sunday event. Luke Johnstone is a dj, promoter friend with whom I am sharing the night. This will be our second “tag-team” dj set, and it will be a pleasure.

Have a safe Memorial Wkd!

California Marriage Ban Overturned

Posted by david on May 16th, 2008

Was very glad to see this news yesterday. Does this mark a turn in the tide of our struggle for equal marriage rights? Might the Bellknapp family one day be equally recognized in this country? Scott and I do not need validation from outside sources. We know we are a real or whole family. It sure would be nice to share in all of the protections and benefits that the American family is afforded by local, state, and federal governments. I am an adult, though, and I’ll survive. I worry very little about how lack of equal marriage rights affects me. I am, however, very concerned about how this whole situation affects many children in this country. Each and every one of them deserve equal consideration, for God’s sake. But, for the time being, the citizenry of my two beautiful children remains substandard. It’s inhumane, and it is definitely not MY American way.

DJ ALEXANDER

Posted by david on May 13th, 2008

Saturday May 3rd marked the debut of my friend Alexander at Splash. The NY boys turned out in mass for his set. Alex did so well that we will be teaming up to play a whole night together for NYC Pride (June 28th), quite like the great Scandal event we did in LA last Halloween! For those of you who aren’t familiar with Alexander, you can check out and download his dj sets at http//:djalexanderla.podomatic.com

As resident dj of TOWN in DC (twice a month, next date May 10th) and John Blair’s Saturdays at SPLASH NYC (once a month, next dates May 17th and 31st), things are great! It feels kind of “old-school” these days, and I am much more intimately involved with the crowds at these venues. Doing only three weeks out of the month at my residencies still affords me the luxury of playing favorite venues all over the USA. In May, I will be in Pensacola Saturday of Memorial Weekend at Johnny Chisholm’s Emerald City nigihtclub, and I will be working with Gus Presents and Luke Johnstone in San Francisco Memorial Sunday.

The Global Groove ‘08 tour is going great. We have had some really cool events. The sponsors have been instrumental. I mean (Undergear), at which other event do you have people pulling underwear out of their gift bags, comparing theirs with strangers, and swapping with one another for the right fit LOL? And where else do you have people running around taking pictures of the patrons with the big Travelocity Gnome? I took the very first pic of the tour next the Gnome, putting my headphones on his head….OH, Everyone wants to be a dj these days!

The Global Groove Live cd is selling like hotcakes. Whereas Escape and I probably didn’t know what it would be like to produce one disk together, we have no doubts now. It was a great team effort, and two heads were better than one in selecting the songs. It has been great to see that the cd immediately was a number one seller in a lot of on and offline retail outlets (Thanks, Perfect Beat!).

One last note:
Thanks to everyone who came to the National Hotel after Winter Party. My set fell squarely between Joe Gauthreaux’s Winter Party set and Tony Moran’s intense nonstop energy, which allowed to flex my sexy-house and electro-tribal muscle a bit. For me, having lived in Miami, the day was a chance to reconnect with many of the old-school friends and circuit buddies. I also met a lot of great guys from all over (thanks for all of you who came up to the booth).

Peace, Love, and Beats,
David
